PRIVATE TUTORING

Private Tutoring is a great way to get one-on-one attention in your own home or out in the community. Courses are tailored to each individual Canine Companion and family. Sessions can be mixed and matched in a variety of ways, including having a Pet Professor work with your dog while you observe or are absent from the home. A Pet Professor can also work with you one-on-one to demonstrate helping your Canine Companion to build behaviors from the ground up. There are costs and benefits to each scenario, and you should discuss these options with your Pet Professor to find the plan that is best for you and your situation. Regardless which option you choose, we highly recommend consistent follow-through on recommendations. This is where Parent Teacher Conferences come in! Parent Teacher Conferences are an opportunity to teach our Pet Parents how to maintain the training and skills your Canine Companion student has learned. See below for the variety of ways Pet Professors can help!

Entrance Interview

Let’s meet, virtually or in the comfort of your home!* We’ll discuss your areas of concern, your pet’s history, and the behavioral skills you would like to build. You will get a crash course on dog psychology and principles of behavior, all while learning the difference between management and training. You may be assigned some homework to get started right away, or we may suggest tools (clicker, treats, pouch) and their use before we begin our training adventure.
*Outside service area will be charged mileage + travel time. To find out if you are in Pet Professors’ service area and current rates, contact us.

Behavior Modification Courses

Behavior modification is for Canine Companions who may lack confidence, show anxiety, or express themselves in an aggressive-looking manner. These dogs may be growling, lunging, or barking towards people, other pets, vehicles or any number of sights and sounds. For dogs suffering from issues like separation anxiety, environmental fear, and bite history, behavior modification is the course of action for you. Pet Parents will learn the difference between Classical Counter Conditioning, Desensitization, Habituation, and Operant Conditioning. Parents will learn how and when to use these skills, including a variety of ways to help manage the environment, reduce stress, and provide enrichment for their Canine Companion. From the very first lessons, through consistency in training, our goal is that Pet Parents will never see the problematic behavior again!

Pet Manners Courses

Do you have trouble teaching your dog to come when called, sit on cue, or other basic manners trouble? Dogs find themselves in an interesting predicament when invited into our homes. Chewing, digging, chasing, and urinating on spongy/absorbent surfaces are part of a dog’s natural tendencies, but they can be downright detrimental to their relationship with their human friends. Through some simple, positive techniques, Pet Parents will learn how to teach new behaviors while building a lifelong ability to communicate with their Canine Companions. These experiences will build a better relationship with your four-legged companions and help solve many training questions.

Puppies and Confidence Building Courses

Getting a puppy soon? A dog’s critical socialization period is between 3-16 weeks. Every dog is different, but most of your puppy’s socialization may begin and end before you bring them home! Pet Professors can help you look for the right breed to fit your lifestyle, help you know what to look for in a breeder or at a shelter, and help prepare you for what you need to know from the very first day. We’ll work to help you maximize the potential of this short but critical period to ensure experiences provided are frequent, varied, and always positive. Your puppy will begin the process of learning how to learn, laying the foundation to build amazing skills as they grow, building a positive working relationship with you and your family. These courses highly encourage meeting twice weekly, consistently, while your puppy is still in this phase. Book your courses early and do not wait to get started! A great beginning can help your dog assimilate into your lifestyle and become the best friend you were looking for.

Agility/Intramural Sports Courses

Looking for a mental and physical outlet for your Canine Companion? Agility, tricks, or other dog sports may be the option for you! Pet Parents will learn how to build complex problem-solving skills with healthy physical output for their dogs. For the active, athletic breeds, these skills help with their physical fitness and mental enrichment, creating an all-around healthy and happy Canine Companion. Pet Parents will also learn skills and techniques for agility, as well as some stretching, warm-up and cool down exercises for their four-legged athletes. Pet Parents do not need a lot of special equipment or large spaces to teach many of the concepts used in this program. Whether you are just looking to have fun with your dog or would like coaching to prepare for competition, Pet Professors can help you reach your goals.
